TWO of Sheffield Eagles longest-serving players, Craig Brown and Greg Hurst, are leaving the club.
Forward Brown has been at Don Valley for seven seasons and until this year was a regular in the back row.

Winger Hurst had over five years at the club but has decided to leave the professional game.

Brown, 27, plans to continue playing and has had talks with Dewsbury.

He said: "It was a massive decision because I've enjoyed every single second I've spent at Sheffield.

"But I think that over the last two years I've not played up to what I have been capable of and I need a change - a shock to the system. I'm not hanging up the boots yet."

Brown joined Eagles from Bradford Bulls and made his debut as a centre - scoring a try against Doncaster Dragons.

After his first season he moved to the back row where he built an outstanding partnership with Andy Raleigh. He played in 165 games scoring 27 tries and kicked one goal.

Last season he played in 18 games but 11 were as a substitute and he faced increasing challenges from developing players for a regular place in the back row.

Hurst, 28, joined Eagles after representing Great Britain at student level.

He played in 119 games scoring 49 tries but last season struggled to make the team.

He said: "I've had five-and-a-half happy years and played with some great players but it's time to move on.

"I had a really great time and great career and I'm glad I was given the opportunity and I'm sad to be giving up."

Coach Mark Aston said: "They are players who I respect highly and have done a great job for the club.

"They go with my regards and with the best from me."
