A BROKEN-down bus brought a busy part of a Sheffield city centre to a standstill - forcing police to divert traffic away from the area.
The Stagecoach single decker bus broke down on Lady's Bridge - which connects the city centre to the Wicker - at 11am yesterday, causing long queues to build up along Waingate in one direction and as far back as The Parkway in the other.

The bus was moved from the road, allowing traffic to flow freely again, at around 1pm.

Motorist John Greasley, aged 56, of North Anston, was stuck in the traffic congestion on the bridge for more than an hour as he tried to travel into Sheffield city centre.

He said: "The bus was broken down and nothing was moving. There are roadworks at the end of the bridge so it was complete congestion.

"I don't work in Sheffield anymore - and if this is the experience I'm glad I don't."

The bridge is to be closed on Sunday for resurfacing works as part of a £2.85 million scheme to improve The Wicker.

Great piece of reporting by the journalist concerned. It's not as if they were working in the dark, as they had a whole gallery of pictures to refer to, but still blamed Stagecoach, when everybody can see it was a First bus that brokedown. It's always a First bus. If I was Stagecoach, I'd demand a front page apology.

I can't wait to past my driving test and I would only use buses in rush hour!
