AS a supporter of St Luke's Hospice I was disappointed with Coun. Scriven's statement concerning the proposed move to Norton Nurseries.
I was also uncomfortable that such a caring and appreciated organisation such as St Luke's should be used as a political pawn in the local elections.

It was interesting to read that the Lib Dems are committed to 'preserve the city's parkland'. If
they looked at a dictionary they would realise that the Norton Nurseries cannot fall into that category as a parkland is 'open land consisting of fields and scattered groups of trees'. Not redundant buildings, and a wasteland not available to the public!

I do however welcome the opportunity for talks about the future of St Luke's because I and many other supporters are keen to know what sites are more appropriate, available, conducive to patient care, and on a good transport route.

While in opposition the Lib Dems kept talking about a variety of sites but would never commit to say where they are! I am sure Coun Scriven and other Lim Dem councillors will soon realise that making important decisions is harder than being in opposition and opposing them for political expediency.

English Partnerships are responsible for the site at Norton Aerodrome.
One of their senior managers told me that they would welcome the involvement of SLH in their development proposals.
He also stated that Mr Kirk had been invited to join in consultations over potential development proposals but that Mr Kirk had declined the offer.

Mr Kirk later states, in public, that the Aerodrome site is unavailable to them.

Who is telling the truth?

On viewing the site at Norton from the bird's eye view aerial picture on www.maps.live.com it looks to be possibly smaller than the site St Luke's has now at Parkhead.

Further along Ecclesall Road South, and only about three bus stops further along, on Hathersage Road there is a derelict sports club house and very large sports field which is just asking to be made into a new St Luke's site. It is bounded by Hathersage Road, Cross Lane and Ash House Lane so has excellent access, it is quiet and would be peaceful for the residents. The support of all the volunteers in the Ecclesall and surrounding areas would mean that the existing helpers would not have to travel much further than they do now as it is only about 1 mile away.

I do not know if this site is in the green belt, but there are houses in the vicinity and if it is green belt, perhaps an exception can be made and the line drawn around the site, as has been done in other cases where the development has impinged into the area near to here.

The nurseries should be left as they are and it is welcoming to read that the Liberals are proposing to upgrade them. The parks have been neglected by Labour and since the demise of the 'Park Keeper' who was always a familiar site when I was a child in the park, the parks seem to have taken a severe decline. It used to be good to go for a 'walk in the park', in fact it is a term that conjures up the idea of something being pleasant, nice and easy to do. Not these days.

So, can anyone throw any light on the site mentioned on Hathersage Road, it was for sale many years ago but is now looking to be an eyesore. Have a look at the website mentioned, you will be amazed. Please do not mistake this for the HSBC sports field which is well used and well looked after and is just before this site mentioned.

If we are talking dictionaries the could I reccomend that the good Rev looks up the word TRUTH, something that St Lukes have been significantly lacking. Or perhaps his dictionary defines truth as a load of lies?

A perfect site, as said earlier, is Norton Aerodrome, it fulfills ALL of St Lukes requirements.

Perhaps the good Rev should check his facts before preaching a sermon on something he obviously knows nothing about to people who clearly do.

His sermon sounds like it was copied straight from that great work of fiction which is a window on a St Lukes Hospice shop.

It would have been better if the Reverend had stuck to preaching about things he knows about rather than things he clearly does not.

It does nothing for the credibility of St Lukes or the church when they revert to using miss-information to back their verion of the so called truth.

Just what makes the church think it has any right to get involved in this saga?

If the Reverent wants to help he should stop repeating the lies he heard from St Lukes and try persuading them to see sense.

The land is already in use by the council. If the council do not want to sell it then that is up to them.

I didn't notice the church offering up the derelict church halls at Norton to any good causes. They simply went on the market to the highest bidder regardless of the impact that it might have on the area.

Just what has this got to do with the church. This is about one charity trying to steal the assets of another charity.
The charity commision have already said it should not go ahead.
I suggest the church stick to putting its own house in order and keep their noses out of things they clearly know nothing about.

I have never understood why the clergy feel they have a right to interfere in matters that do not concern them. It is even more mysterious when they don't check their facts before they preach it to us as if it were the truth.
