AFTER visiting a friend recently at the Northern General Hospital, I was waiting for my bus home on Norwood Road, at the junction with Herries Road, when I noticed, high up on a lamp post, an old AA Football Traffic sign.
It looked quite vintage, so I duly walked across the road and took a picture, much to the surprise of people also waiting in the bus queue.!

Now I don't know how vintage this forgotten and forlorn sign is, but I would hazard a guess it dates from 1966, with Sheffield Wednesday's Hillsborough stadium playing host to World Cup games (four).

Then again it may have been erected in connection with a 1970s FA Cup semi-final. For whatever reason, it is a reminder of Hillsborough Stadium's past and important association of hosting top matches.

On the new multi-million Sheffield inner ring road, between the Parkway, Cutlers Gate, Bridgehouses, Corporation Street and Shalesmoor, there is not one road sign directing football traffic to Hillsborough, Sheffield's biggest capacity arena. With the new football season just around the corner, many thousands from far and wide will be heading for Hillsborough.

Surely, one or two new football traffic signs placed on the new inner ring road would help on match days, with the ever increasing traffic flows.
