I WAS really annoyed to read (Sept 25) 'Axed by homes firm'...not because of Sheffield Homes but at the scaremongering headlines in these trying times.
Of course it is upsetting that Sheffield Homes may have to lay off people, but so will many other businesses, due to the present economic climate.
Sheffield Homes is one of the largest ALMOs in the country, and since 2004, three quarters of the ho
mes in Sheffield, have been improved, with new bathrooms, kitchens, double glazing and new doors, and I would have thought The Star, would be proud of what Sheffield's ALMO has achieved.
I realise the full story was there for people to read. Yes 100 people may have to be laid of next year, and possibly a further100 in 2010. The only way to inform all of the staff at the same time was through the Intranet, but it was also stated that all staff would be spoken to personally.
I am privileged to be a tenant Director of Sheffield Homes, and am proud of what the company has achieved since 2004. I know the tenants are very happy with their updated and modernised homes, even though it entailed a lot of work and mess at the time.
Let's have less sensational headlines and more news please.
