IN response to Jillian Creasy's letter I would like to comment on her statement: 'It is still not clear how ecologically valuable Kaye Meadows is. Local people will know best how it has been farmed over the years and whether it is in fact unimproved grass land'
Sheffield Wildlife Trust recently explained to the chairman of Bradfield Parish Council the national criterion used to make an expert assessment as to whether a field is unimproved grassland. The point of all this being that unimproved grasslands are
identified locally and nationally as having declined rapidly in recent years and are now considered at risk and a priority for conservation.
Local people are aware of the natural beauty and value of the meadow which is why they have petitioned against its destruction. They do not however have the expertise to assess its true nature, thus the need to call on those educated in ecology.
Caroline McNerney, Church Street, OughtibridgeI WAS surprised to read that Jillian Creasy felt Sheffield council was not being supportive of Bradfield Parish Council.
The council has been very supportive of Bradfield Parish Council in this matter, many members of Sheffield City Council have given a great deal of thought to the matter and have corresponded and met with councillors from BPC.
The responsibility to provide allotments lies with Bradfield Parish Council.
