EACH year, on July 24, Samaritans across the country dedicate a day towards raising awareness of the work we do and the fact we are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Samaritans provide an essential service to people across the full spectrum of emotional difficulties. It is a wide misconception that we deal only with people who are considering taking their lives. In reality while helping those with suicidal thoughts we also offer support, for example, to people who self harm as well as people undergoing exam stress and people who are being bullied. In Chesterfield we receive a huge number of contacts, really demonstrating the need for our service.

In total 26642 people telephoned our branch office in Chesterfield town centre (01246 270000) last year. We also provide an email service and last year 1,286 email messages were sent to us (jo@samaritans.org).

We are a charity and we rely entirely upon volunteer 'Listeners' and donations largely from the public.

If you are in need of support remember we are here for you 24/7. There is someone waiting to listen.

Scott Lomax, Publicity Officer, Chesterfield Samaritans
