A TEENAGER left fighting for life after being knifed in Sheffield was attacked just hours after attending the funeral of a friend stabbed to death in a city nightclub.
Junior Liversidge, aged 19, of Fife Street, Wincobank, was among hundreds of mourners at the funeral of 23-year-old friend Brett Blake on Friday, who died after an incident on the dancefloor at Uniq nightclub on Carver Street.
After the wake Junio
r and a group of friends went to Wincobank and were parked in their cars at 2.30am on Saturday when he was attacked between The Foundry Arms pub on Barrow Road and Wincobank Hotel on Newman Road.
Police confirmed they are looking for possible links with the murder of Mr Blake, of Longley Avenue West, Longley.
They are also looking for links with the stabbing of a 17-year-old youth attacked as he walked along Castledine Gardens, Wincobank, in the early hours of Sunday.
Supt Andy Barrs, responsible for the policing of Wincobank, said: "We are not ruling out that the stabbing on Saturday was connected with the murder - it is one of the theories we are exploring."
Police sus pect both attacks at the weekend were "targeted" rather than random knifings.
Today one of three friends who took Junior to hospital has revealed how he was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
Ainsley Manyou, 17, of Norfolk Park, plans an official complaint against South Yorkshire Police.
Ainsley was among the group of friends in Wincobank when Junior was attacked.
"I was sitting in a car with some friends and Junior was in another and the next thing I knew he was banging on our windows shouting 'Let me in, take me to hospital, I'm going to die'.
"Everything was happening quickly so we just rushed him to hospital because he was bleeding - we could hear the blood gushing out," he said.
Ainsley and his two friends were released without charge on Sunday, and Junior is still critical but stable in hospital.
Supt Barrs insisted the decision to arrest Ainsley and his two friends was "lawful, proportionate and justified".
- Two men - Curtis Lee Goring, aged 26, and Danny Hockenhull, 23 - have been charged with the murder of Brett Blake.
