A SOUTH Yorkshire headteacher was rescued from the River Dearne after getting stranded at the bottom of a 20ft bank.
Geraldine Wilson, aged 40, who runs High View Primary Learning Centre in Wombwell, Barnsley, got stuck at the bottom of the steep bank as she tried to pull her dogs to safety.

The pets had been struggling in the fast flowing river and, as Mrs Wils
on tried to pull them from the water, she could not get back onto dry ground herself.

A passer-by saw Mrs Wilson struggling and raised the alarm. Within seven minutes of receiving the 999 call two police officers arrived on the scene and managed to pull the teacher up the bank by tying her two dog leads together to create a rope. Paramedics and firefighters also raced to the scene to help out on Thursday at 1.30pm.

Mrs Wilson did not need medical assistance afterwards. Police stressed only fully trained people should try to help those in danger.
