FIREFIGHTERS called out to a smoke-logged betting shop in Sheffield discovered they weren't dealing with a blaze, but an intruder alarm which had activated.
A passer-by rang 999 after spotting smoke in the Bob Holmes betting shop on City Road, but when fire crews arrived there were no flames and no fire.
Instead they realised the shop's intruder alarm smoke-logs the property to make it difficult for b
urglars to see.
Police were called and are investigating the incident, at around 10pm on Tuesday.
A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and released on bail pending further inquiries.
