A CHILDREN'S football manager who brawled with a parent in front of horrified kids at a junior tournament has resigned.
Tariq Iqbal resigned as manager of Dodworth Miners' Welfare Junior Football Club under-7s team at a meeting with club officials.

Club secretary Carol Griggs said the other man involved in the punch-up - a parent with a child in the same team - had
been barred from attending matches pending an investigation.

Mrs Griggs said the incident had heaped shame on their organisation, which has 180 children in 11 teams, and they had moved swiftly to restore its reputation.

The men traded blows during a competition organised by Wickersley Youth FC in Rotherham. The parent suffered concussion after allegedly being kicked. The manager was arrested and bailed pending further inquiries.

Mrs Griggs said: "They are both out of the picture, one permanently.

"Tariq needed no persuading and resigned - he couldn't believe it happened and was very remorseful.

"The other has been barred from attending matches until the FA decides what to do. It's in their hands.

"It's still a big shock. We had one club ring up to ask if we had dealt with the problem, otherwise we weren't welcome at their tournament."
