VAT hope for golfers

Golf and sports clubs, which are non-profit making, could be eligible to claim substantial refunds for overpayments of VAT, according to accountants and business advisers PKF.
PKF says clubs have been prey to zealous VAT officials, demanding tax on membership income, but that could change following a recent House of Lords ruling.

VAT experts at PKF's Sheffield office are already helping Fulford Golf Club to reclaim overpaid VAT.

"Not only will a club get the overpaid VAT refunded but substantial interest is payable on these refunds," said Brian Birt, VAT services manager in the Sheffield office.
