Lawyer Jonathan Armstrong has been presented with the inaugural Alan Brownley Award, by the South Yorkshire Branch of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) for his services to marketing and the branch.
Mr Armstrong is an internationally recognised expert on electronic corporate governance, Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Marketing and vice chairman of the international law and practice section of the New York State Bar Association.

His work at international law firm Eversheds, includes counselling multinational companies on electronic corporate governance, their online reputation and on pan-European privacy policies.

Mr Armstrong has spoken on technology law issues at major conferences in Bulgaria, China, Estonia, Holland and the US and was a key note speaker at the W3C conference in Edinburgh.

Giovanna Battiston, chairman of the Sheffield Branch of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, said: "We decided to make this award to Jonathan in recognition of his long-term contribution to the continuous professional development of Sheffield branch members.

"He has made several presentations to our members on data protection and about marketing and the law, with another due in November.

"He encourages members to get in touch with him if they have any concerns surrounding the topic, an offer many have taken up."

The award Mr Armstrong received was created in memory of Alan Brownley, a long standing member of the Institute's Sheffield branch.
